Color energies are useful in many ways. One of the most basic ways to use color symbolism in magick is to select candles of the color appropriate to your purpose. The power of color may be added at any point in rituals and spells to enhance the symbolism, and thus the power of the spell.
Examples include:
  • Candles
  • Altar Cloth & Flowers
  • Fabric and components for Amulets, Talismans, Dream Pillows, etc.
  • Food coloring choices in Bath Salts.
  • Label/Container choices for brews, teas, essential oils etc.
  • Meditations on colors for reaching specific chakras, or areas for psychic development.
  • Garments for ceremonies or simply on days when you wish to attract (or deflect) certain energies.
  • Colored papers and inks for written spell work.
  • Awareness of colors you select in your decor and environment.
As with most things magickal, how you feel about the color and your aims is the most important guide. If a color feels right to use for a purpose, even if it is not listed here, use it! As shown in the varying and sometimes overlapping associations above, the power and meaning of colors varies somewhat form person to person.

reconciliation, and beauty.

Friday has often been associated with relaxation as it is at the end of the week, but the good

feeling that comes with Friday also has a lot to do with the fact that it is ruled by the planet
Venus - The Goddess of Love. Lusterless relationships and disputes may be settled on

aspects: protection, healing, spirituality, and strength.

Sunday is the perfect day for the magic of Fatherhood. A father wishing to cast a spell for his

Sunday is also the day for social and political furtherment, so try going out to see some friends

on a Sunday or just mingle.

This is the proper day of the week to perform spells and rituals involving exorcism, healing,

prosperity, individuality,

The Moon Phases and Wicca Magick

CURRENT MOON

What are the Moon phases? How do they affect tides, magick, and Wicca? What are the magickal powers of each phase of the Moon?
The powerful effect of the Moon is obvious. Look at how it pulls the waters around our world.
And the Moon affects much more than just water. The very Earth under your feet has tidal movement that also follows the Moon. So does the air you breathe. So does the blood within your body, at least metaphorically.
Every phase of the Moon creates a certain energy. This energy affects us, and everything on Earth.
As a religion of nature worship, Wiccans are well aware of the importance of the Moon's cycles. Especially as they affect making magick.
Let's start with the basics . . .

The Phases of the Moon

(and How to Remember Them)

Every month, the Moon cycles through its phases:

Full Moon -> Waning Moon -> Dark Moon -> New Moon -> Waxing Moon -> Full Moon

As we observe this Moon cycle, we are watching a living mandala in action. wicca-spirituality-moon-phases-graphic

How To Tell If The Moon Is Waxing Or Waning

The Waxing Moon begins on the right side of the moon. It grows from right to left. (This is in the Northern Hemisphere. In the Southern Hemisphere, this is opposite.)
If you flatten your right hand with all your fingers together and hold it out at arm's length, it makes a curve, like a backwards letter "C." (If it looks like an "L" tilt your thumb toward the ground. See it?) This is the way that the Waxing Moon looks. It would fit into the curve between your thumb and fingers.
You might find this easy to remember, when you consider that for most people the right hand is the active, doing, giving hand. This is the energy of the Waxing Moon. And this is the hand that looks like a waxing ")" shape.
Another memory-cue is to think of making candle magick: you would write in the candle wax, and (if you're in the majority) you'd use your right hand. So right hand is waxing hand.
If you do the same with your left hand, you get the direction of the Waning Moon. The left, in Wicca, is the hand of releasing, undoing, and receiving. The Waning Moon, with this same energy, echoes the shape of the left-hand "C" shape.
A memory tip for remembering that waning means the Moon is getting smaller is to remember that waning means weakening: the Moon's light is getting weaker. And weakening has the word waning hidden within it: W-e-A-k-e-N-I-N-G.

Moon Phase & Wicca Magick

The Moon phase must be taken into account whenever working magick or Wiccan spell-casting.
Each phase of the Moon has its own energy, and its own Power. When spell-casting, as mentioned in the Essence of Magick, the more you can align with the flow of Universal Energy, the more powerful your Wiccan spells will be.
So the phases of the Moon become crucial information to a magickal Witch.
What are the Powers of the various phases of the Moon? Here's a handy-dandy chart to guide you . . .

Powers of the Moon Phases

wicca-spirituality-moon-phases-animationThe Moon is in magick the way it is in life. Each moon phase generates an energy flow. If you want to work magick with the Moon -- which is one of the most important ways to enter into the flow of Magick -- you must perform your spells in harmony with the Moon's phase.
Below is a list of Moon phases, and the energy they create. This will tell you when the best time is to work any magick spell.

New Moon

wicca-spirituality-new-moon  New beginnings, fresh starts, optimism, hope and faith,

Waxing Moon

wicca-spirituality-waxing-moon  Building, accomplishments, creativity, strength, growth and learning, positive transformation

Waning Moon

wicca-spirituality-waning-moon  Letting go, clearing away, cleansing, releasing, shedding old patterns, undoing bindings, opening up problem-knots, making space

Dark Moon

wicca-spirituality-dark_moon  Rest, Peace, deep wisdom, divination, contacting the guru within, letting things die away completely

Moon Phases Affect the Tide

One of the greatest powers of the Moon is its affect on the tide.
The Moon phase affects the tides not only of the ocean, but of the atmosphere and even the Earth. And of course, it affects people and animals too.
There are, in fact, 5 tides caused by Moon cycles.
These tides are have a powerful effect on all things. In fact, the Moon is responsible for all life on Earth.
It is no wonder, then, that the Moon is revered as one who gives abundance and grants wishes.
How natural it is for Wiccans to celebrate the Moon phases!

********Elements-
fundamental aspect of Wiccan belief is the set of Four or Five Elements of Nature. Some hold to the earlier Greek conception of the four classical elements (air, fire, water, earth), while others recognize five elements: earth, air, water, fire, and spirit (akasha). Some see the points of the pentagram symbol as representing the five elements. The elements are commonly invoked at the beginning of rituals or used in their physical forms to symbolically purify the ritual circle. Each element has associated symbols, rituals and meanings, which are outlined in the chart below. (Note: Systems of the elements vary by tradition and the associations below are not used by all Wiccans.)

*****Candles******
The dancing flames of candles have been used as a Witches' tool for centuries. By setting the proper atmosphere, candles are used to help increase a spell's power, or to influence a particular power. Candles absorb one's personal energy and release this energy when burned Candle colour is very important when performing magick, for each colour emits a particular vibration and attracts certain influences. The following list is meant to be used as a guide in choosing a candle colour for your personal use. Please remember that colour is another "tool" and you need choose what works best for you in your magickal workings. If you do not have the colour mentioned for a particular need, allow your intuition and the Goddess guide you in choosing one for your purposes.

The candles you use should be ones you yourself make out of beeswax, using natural dyes and essential oils, if desired. Beeswax sheets are available at most hobby stores, and are a fast and easy way to make your own candles at home. Realizing this is not always possible, you may use what is readily available to you. Prior to using any candle in your workings you should cleanse the candle and anoint it with a small amount of oil during the waxing phase of the moon. This consecrates the candle and charges it with magickal energy. You can also carve or paint appropriate magickal symbols onto your candles, to further empower the candles with those energies. The heated tip of your athame works well for this purpose. It is best to use one candle per ritual or spell, and to not use a candle that has been used previously for another purpose. It is also best to allow the candle to burn out by itself, as blowing it out may disperse the energy contained within.
